Fan Engagement Workshop Speakers

Edwin Darlow

Founder and CEO of Tribe Sports App

Edwin Darlow is a digital entrepreneur with a background in psychology, early stage startups and venture capital.

Utilising those experiences, Tribe takes a human-centric approach to providing an exceptional sports following experience, and a single destination for sport. This user-first focus has created such a quality of experience that many users are inspired to share with others, providing Tribe with significant organic growth, largely via word of mouth.

As a single destination for sport, Tribe's core revolves around scores, schedules, tables and commentary for everything from Super Rugby and NRL to the Black Sticks and the Black Caps. Beyond that core, Tribe has been increasingly expanding it's offering to add value for others around it, including amateur leagues (such as 1st XV Schoolboy Rugby along with Auckland & Wellington Club Rugby), tickets, stadiums, streaming, betting, and much more.

With a significant and extremely active userbase already in place, Tribe's current phase focuses on partnerships with sporting organisations and those providing value around them. All this with an emphasis on - and an unwavering belief in - not just enhancing the user experience, but also providing the greatest value for the teams, leagues, services and brands involved with sport.

Edwin will be talking about both the drivers of Tribe's journey to date, and the opportunities that Tribe now provides for NSOs, service providers, and all levels of sport going forwards.

Conrad Donkin

Conrad Donkin has had a varied professional journey within global sports events, hospitality, travel & tourism, yachting and construction. But by today's standards, he is a self-proclaimed low-tech guy.

Not one to shy away from a new challenge, Conrad and his partner Katherine Heatley have become involved in  geo-location-based AR leaders skignz ("Signs in the Sky"). Based in the UK with a foothold in USA and a global roll-out underway, skignz allows placement of AR markers over people, places or things, anywhere on the planet and viewed though the smart-phone camera. One touch of the marker allows direct link to limitless opportunities to engage with the surrounding environment.

skignz is in its early stages but has already secured agreements with major global companies and sporting properties in various industry sectors. Conrad will share the skignz journey and working case pilots with Coca-Cola, Atlanta Braves, Smart City initiatives and the future prospects of venues, sports, sponsorship and spectators.

In addition to this new adventure, Conrad is the Founder and Director of Atlas Events. He has over 20 years' experience delivering sponsor hospitality activation and customer engagement programmes to 9 Olympic Games and other global sporting events. He plans on utilising this network and platform to launch skignz into his familiar world of major sporting events.

Peter Howell

Chief Executive Officer, DROPIT

Peter Howell is an entrepreneur who uses technology to provide innovative solutions in a rapidly changing digital environment.

As founder and CEO of New Zealand start-up company DROPIT, Peter and brother Brendan Howell have created a world-first interactive, fan engagement app connecting sponsors and teams with their fans during exhilarating drop auctions in-stadium.

A Kiwi success story in the diverse and advanced technology sector, DROPIT last year disrupted the world's biggest consumer market, the United States, by securing deals with Daktronics, the world's leading manufacturer of electronic scoreboards and digital signage and the NBA's Phoenix Suns. Peter and Brendan, have in 2018, brought the world-leading technology back to New Zealand by joining the SKYCITY Breakers, Vodafone Warriors, and NZ Cricket. Many more sports teams are expected to join in 2018, both local and abroad.

Peter believes creativity and technology are not mutually exclusive - technology is the mechanism and innovation drives the application – and there is plenty of untapped potential in the New Zealand innovation field. It is his goal to share his knowledge and experience of the technology business space with others, to inspire future generations and to bring wider success to the industry.

Peter has a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Communications from the University of Waikato.

DROPIT provides a "game-changing" solution to a major problem impacting both sponsors and teams in the sport industry – fan disengagement.
