Professor Elsdon Storey
Elsdon Storey is Adjunct Professor of Neuroscience at Monash University (Alfred Hospital campus), Melbourne. He gained his primary medical degree at Melbourne University, and his D.Phil. at Oxford University. Returning to Australia, he underwent training in clinical neurology.
This was followed by a post-doctoral position at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Huntington's disease neurochemistry laboratory, where his interests in cognitive neurology and neurogenetics were awoken.
He then worked in Colin Masters' Alzheimer's disease research group, with conjoint appointments as Neurologist to the State Neuropsychiatry Unit and the Neurogenetics Clinic, at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
He was appointed as Professor of Neuroscience and Head, Alfred Hospital Neurology Unit in 1996, retiring in 2016. He continues to work in hospital memory and neurogenetics clinics. He remains research-active, with major roles in the large ASPREE and STAREE trials, and a long-standing collaboration in FMR1 clinical research with LaTrobe University.
