Concurrent Session 2b: Retrieval, travel, expedition and event medicine


Dr Ben McHale (BSc, MBChB, PGCert Health Sci (Sports Med)

Ben is currently working as a GP registrar at Ngongotaha Medical Centre in Rotorua.  His passion is Sports Medicine and in addition to travelling internationally with many sports teams, such as the All Whites, Football Ferns and Black Sticks, he has also worked at a number of large sporting events throughout NZ.  

He also works as a co-director for Ascent Medical Support.  This events business provides evidence based pre-hospital care, delivered by doctors and nurses, to a number of New Zealand's top endurance and extreme sporting events.  As a result, he has experienced many of the challenges and limitations of managing head injuries and concussion in outdoor sports, such as Mountain Biking.
